Hi Ali! Thank you for being part of the Health and Fitness Travel, Strong, Healthy Women Interview Series, where we are shining a light on the importance of self-care, not as an indulgence but a necessity to reduce stress and general health issues.
Is there such a thing as a typical day for you and what does that look like?
The only thing that is typical about my day is that it is going to be extremely full.
I’m always working on a number of ranges and projects at any one time and juggling brand stratergy, design, book work, client meetings and managing staff.
Can you share a time when you felt your well-being was challenged in the past and what did you overcome it?
This is a constant and daily battle to be frank. The best remedy I have found is an early night preluded by trashy tv and maybe a gin on the rocks. Failing that I take an immune booster supplement nearly every day which I swear by to keep the negative effects of stress and long hours at bay.
What does being healthy mean to you and how do you keep this at the forefront when life gets unavoidably busy?
Being healthy is so much more than what you eat and drink. I believe that mindset is really so important. Having the emotional capacity and constitution to deal with the challenges that are served up day to day is key. It’s certainly difficult to always be in a positive frame of mind but having great people around you to balance and lift you when you need is the game changer.
Have you ever taken a holiday specifically for your well-being? Can you share what the experience was like?
Yes – I recently went on a yoga and meditation retreat with Bad Yogi Retreats to Lord Howe Island and had an amazing experience. It was such a great way to disconnect and recharge.
Every woman’s idea of self-care is different, tell us about yours?
A good book, a hot day and a beach… and no phone– that’s my ideal version of self care.
