We can hardly go a day without hearing the word “Antioxidant”. We constantly hear people sprouting information about them, but what does it really mean?
Free-radicals damage our cells and cause everything from aging to cancer. Antioxidants fight free-radicals in our systems. Nourishing our bodies with foods high in antioxidants can not only help to prevent these things, but also help to repair the damage when its already done.
When it comes to skin, a diet rich in antioxidants will help give you a clear and glowing complexion. Here are our antioxidant must-haves:
- Almonds are packed with Vitamin E, an antioxidant that defends against sun damage. They are also low fat and have been proven to assist with weight management.

- Berries are packed with vitamins, especially vitamin C, which helps to boost collagen production. Collagen controls the firmness, strength and flexibility of the skin. Vitamin C has also been shown to repair damaged body tissues and has been linked to skin cancer prevention.

- Dark Chocolate is packed with flavonoids that act as antioxidants, making the skin feel and look smoother and providing sun protection. See, chocolate is healthy, right?
- Sweet Potatoes and Carrots are packed with Carotenoids, Vitamin C, and Beta-Carontene; the precursor to Vitamin A. Vitamin A is a popular topical anti-aging treatment, but is also useful for skin if included in your diet.
- Green Tea has been the subject of numerous medical studies on antioxidants and free-radical damage. These studies show increased protection from skin cancer by quenching free-radicals and reducing skin inflammation rather than blocking UVs.

Our harsh Australian environment, means that we need to be even more mindful of free-radical damage to our skin.
Team a great diet with a skincare regime high in absorbable antioxidants to nourish your skin inside and out!

Kelly Briese is the Founder and Director of Briese Botanicals, a skincare brand on the forefront of change in the natural beauty industry.
An environmental warrior, wellness junkie, and lover of natural products, Kelly launched Briese Botanicals in June 2015 and began her entrepreneurial journey on a mission to educate and empower women to make better choices for their health.
After an electrical accident left Kelly with an immune disorder and extremely sensitive skin, she could only tolerate natural skincare products. Frustrated with the lack of choices available, she looked to the Australian outback and saw the potential to change the skincare game forever. From her history working in the environment, Kelly identified a range of Australian native botanicals that were bursting with antioxidants and could achieve the same benefits as their chemical laden rivals. Kelly began formulations and Briese Botanicals was born.
Above all, Kelly is a believer in empowering women, whether that is educating them on better choices for their health, or succeeding in business. The Briese Botanicals brand allows women to make safe, natural, informed choices for themselves and their families.
