Post Coronavirus Overseas Travel Possible from July

According to the Tourism Restart Taskforce, which is an industry group established to advise the Federal Government on a domestic and international travel road map post-COVID, Australians may be able to starting flying to New Zealand in little more than a month.

“From our point of view, July 1 is possible,” John Hart, the Chair of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, told news.com.au

For those looking to travel further abroad, other countries deemed ‘safe’ may start from September, with all overseas travel commencing from 15th December 2020 says Hart.

For those looking to travel further abroad, other countries deemed ‘safe’ may start from September, with all overseas travel commencing from 15th December 2020 says Hart.

“The industry wants this bubble to happen, but it’s out of our hands,” Mr Hart explained, saying not all borders need to be open for the trans-Tasman travel bubble to operate.

But Hart said that date would be dependent on health advice, with countries included after they are deemed safe by Australian health authorities.

“Managing the hygiene risk on planes and at airports was critical to the restart and there was a discussion about the difficulties created by 1.5m social distancing as this would make flights uneconomic,” the minutes read.

Some airports had already installed temperature checking and Australians can expect those protocols to be in place at every airport before travel restarts.
