Hi Megan! Thank you for being part of the Health and Fitness Travel, Strong, Healthy Women Interview Series, where we are shining a light on the importance of self-care, not as an indulgence but a necessity to reduce stress and general health issues.

Is there such a thing as a typical day for you and what does that look like?

As a Women’s Online Coach, Retreat Leader, Blogger and Content Creator, every day is different, but I do my best to create structure with both my work and personal commitments.

Every day begins at 4am where my focus is on self-care. I have created my own version of Hal Elrod’s ‘The Miracle Morning’. I start with 20 minutes of meditation, followed by prayer, writing out my goals and journaling. Most of this is done sitting in silence. I then head to the gym where I love to mix things up between cardio, strength training and stretching.

My work day is a mix of coaching calls with Women in different parts of the world, to organising retreats, creating blogs or video content, to learning new skills to improve my business. A soul-driven entrepreneur’s work is never done!

My night time routine begins with a hot shower, which I use as a form of meditation to wash away the day’s stresses, followed by a quick beauty regime, gratitude journaling, reading, prayer and meditation before I sleep.

Can you share a time when you felt your well-being was challenged in the past and what did you overcome it?

Five years ago I was struggling with depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. At the time I was working 7 days a week between my two supplement retail businesses and reached a stage of complete burn-out and exhaustion.

That was the turning point for me to change my priorities. In the depths of darkness and despair, I decided to sell my 2 businesses, sell my beachside home and sold or gave everything away to book a one-way ticket to Bali!

I self-imposed a 12 month time-out from the stress and responsibilities of life as I knew it, to focus on healing and nourishing my mind, body and spirit back to good health.

What does being healthy mean to you and how do you keep this at the forefront when life gets unavoidably busy?

In a past life, I thought being healthy meant to be fit and lean (which I achieved as a fitness competitor) and making sure I eat my veggies!

These days being healthy to me is about having a strong and empowered mindset. It’s about having a deep connection with self and those I love. And it’s also about taking care of my body – these are all the amazing benefits of a consistent self-care practice.

Life does get busy, but my new life is centred around self-care. Self-care first, and the rest falls into place.

Have you ever taken a holiday specifically for your well-being? Can you share what the experience was like?

I didn’t just take a holiday specifically for my well-being, I moved to Bali for a year to transform my well-being. I literally cried myself to sleep for the first 3 months as I adjusted to my much slower pace of life. I had to learn what it was like to not work so much, to not always be looking after others first.

In the beginning I felt guilty for putting so much time into my self-care, and I was fighting many of the old mental programs I picked as a child. Programs like the importance of working hard, usually at the detriment of my well-being, and that life is nothing about striving for more wealth and success.

It was in Bali where I learned how to meditate, how to sit in silence comfortably with my thoughts, how to journal, and where my new found gratitude for life came from.

Every woman’s idea of self-care is different, tell us about yours?

My idea of self-care is any activity we chose to do deliberately for the soul reason of reducing stress and overwhelm and increasing those feel good hormones! For me, that could mean doing the bookwork I’ve been avoiding, a coffee date with my bestie when I should be working, or taking a powernap when I’m feeling tired, stressed and overwhelmed.

Self-care to me now is a non-negotiable, my whole day works around my self-care plan.
